Buffalo Bills Tackle Payroll Challenges with UKG Pro

HR teams of sports organizations are facing uphill challenges in the modern day. The biggest challenges include the quick turnaround required for paying players and the fast and accurate payment of hundreds of event staff after game days.

The NFL’s Buffalo Bills are no different, which is why they are now using UKG Pro to streamline payroll and talent processes.

With UKG Pro, the Buffalo Bills HR team will:

  • Conveniently manage their people processes and data in one place, including personal information, employment history and performance reviews benefits choices.
  • Access relevant information via an easy-to-navigate dashboard and update to reflect the preferred language and content layout.
  • Process complex payroll computations with no need for manual calculations — including overtime and shift premiums.
  • Utilize detailed pay and tax reporting while running payroll, and advanced analytics and dashboards for visibility into pay equity practices
  • Help employees feel financially secure with advance access to wages, take-home pay scenario calculations and charitable giving options embedded into the pay cycle.
  • Widen the talent pool while cultivating relationships with candidates, even before looking to hire.
  • Connect new hires to the organization in a personalized and impactful way, ensuring a successful journey to their first day of work.

“There are many different variables in efficiently processing payroll each week for our players,” said Sondra Bridge, senior payroll manager at the Buffalo Bills. “Pro payroll is exceptionally user friendly, so I can run payroll myself, without the need to call into a service bureau or engage with a customer service rep. My control over the solution makes our fast payroll processing possible.”

Bridge also said that an additional 800 part-time staff are paid for work on game day, and Pro can handle the workload with no issue. Additionally, the organization is able to focus on recruiting and onboarding with Pro enabling the Bills to adjust to its complex payroll.

“We face an ongoing challenge related to the volume of our recruiting, and UKG Pro Recruiting is able to keep up with our needs. We can quickly and easily post positions on job sites, electronically capture and house candidate data and track interview status,” said Barb Evans, director of HR at the Buffalo Bills. “With the click of a button, we can send offer letters and new-hire documents and initiate background checks. All this data moves over to our core solution electronically, so payroll processing is automatic for the new employee.”

The comprehensive suite is going beyond traditional human capital management with innovative tools to deliver effective management of human capital transactions, and the Buffalo Bills are benefitting from it.
