Toast Empowers Restaurant Workers with Sling Acquisition

By

When the pandemic hit in 2020, the restaurant industry was almost immediately impacted very significantly.  That impact still lingers with the industry at the forefront of the Great Resignation. As a result, strong relationship between restaurants and their employees is now more critical than ever. According to the National Restaurant Association, two major challenges for restaurants are recruiting and retaining employees, especially as workers nationwide are demanding more from their employers. It’s why it is important for restaurants to efficiently manage their limited staffing.

To help solve some of these challenges, Toast, a digital technology platform built for restaurants, is expanding its team management suite with employee scheduling and communications. The company has acquired employee scheduling, communication and management solution Sling.

The addition of Sling will provide employees more control of their schedules and opportunity. Employees will be enabled to view and swap shifts, manage their availability remotely and receive real-time communication through the Sling mobile app.

“Empowering restaurant employees was central to our founding vision. We are thrilled to join Toast and more deeply leverage our employee scheduling, communication and management capabilities to help restaurants increase team efficiency and lower labor costs,” said Helgi Hermannsson, Sling CEO and founder.

Sling will add to the Toast Payroll and Team Management products, including Toast Payroll, Toast Tips Manager and Toast Pay Card and PayOut. Through its Team Management Suite, Toast enables restaurants to simplify scheduling and communication across their teams, control labor costs and pay employees faster through one integrated platform.

“By adding Sling to the Toast platform, we can provide a more comprehensive suite of team management products purpose-built for restaurants, from new hire onboarding to payroll processing and now the ability to schedule shifts across the team,” said Aman Narang, chief operating officer and co-founder of Toast. “Our customers will benefit from the ability to simplify communication across their team, control their labor costs and efficiently manage their teams through one integrated platform.”

With the addition of Sling to its Team Management Suite, Toast, will help restaurants stand out in the crowded hiring market.
