Making Creative Magic: Runway Teams Up with Google Cloud's Generative AI

By

Runway, an applied AI research company, is at the forefront of reshaping the realms of art, entertainment and human creativity. Their core mission revolves around conducting research, constructing robust infrastructure, and developing innovative products and applications. (All aimed at getting the most out of AI for enhanced creativity.)

One of Runway's primary areas of focus is the exploration of multi-modal AI systems. These systems have the capacity to comprehend and generate content across diverse modalities, including text, images, audio and video. This research is pivotal in enabling AI to be more versatile and adaptable, opening up new avenues for creative applications.

Runway also places a strong emphasis on creating a secure and user-friendly infrastructure for deploying AI models. This infrastructure is vital for ensuring the safe and effective integration of AI into real-world applications.

With that said, Runway is set to leverage Google Cloud's specialized generative AI tools for the development, acceleration and management of model deployment. They will tap into Google Cloud's infrastructure and expertise in scaling AI and machine learning models, expanding the accessibility of GenAI-powered tools to a broader spectrum of creatives and businesses than ever before.

This partnership comes with several key advantages.

It aims to automate processes by enhancing performance and cost-efficiency, with Runway intending to train and deploy ML models using Google Cloud's A3 VMs, powered by NVIDIA H100 GPUs. The collaboration also emphasizes scalability. Google Cloud's global infrastructure and proficiency in scaling AI and ML models through the Google Kubernetes Engine will enable a more extensive community of creators and businesses to seamlessly integrate Runway's cutting-edge generative AI tools.

Additionally, Runway's suite of tools will gain increased worldwide availability, democratizing access to the next generation of creative tools for millions of users and enterprises across the globe.

"Runway sits at the intersection of innovative technology and tools that creatives rely on every day,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud. “Our partnership will help reinvent the way the creative industry works by making AI-powered tools accessible to more artists, creators, and collaborators worldwide."

Supported by Google Cloud's technology and scalable infrastructure, Runway will continue to reshape the creative software landscape, granting creators worldwide access to cutting-edge software solutions. Already, Runway has facilitated creative endeavors for prominent clients such as CBS, New Balance, Nick, R/GA and filmmakers, pushing the boundaries of creativity.

With this new partnership with Google Cloud, Runway accelerates its capacity to deliver technological innovations while upholding a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity in the future of content creation.

"Our research and inventions have already brought fundamental changes to the way creatives work, democratizing access and unlocking new mediums," said Runway CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela. "By partnering with Google Cloud, we're able to further our efforts to build a better creative future that's increasingly accessible, controllable and empowering for artists and creators alike."
