Zoom AI Companion Reaches Milestone with More Features to Come

By

Zoom, as we know, is a widely used video conferencing platform that has gained immense popularity, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Zoom provides a user-friendly interface for virtual meetings, webinars and collaborative work sessions. Its key features include high-quality video and audio capabilities, screen-sharing, chat functions, and the ability to host large gatherings.

Zoom even joined the generative AI boom earlier this year with its own solution: Zoom AI Companion.

Zoom AI Companion is a generative AI digital assistant that is included (at no additional cost) for customers' user accounts with Zoom's paid services. It helps users improve their productivity and collaboration by providing real-time features such as Team Chat compose, meeting summaries, and email summaries.

And two months after its launch, Zoom now has more than 125,000 accounts using AI Companion, generating more than 1 million meeting summaries.

“Guided by its impressively accurate output, our teams are more consistently adhering to best practices in meetings such as stating the objective upfront and clearly outlining and assigning action items,” said Lucas Oliveira, Chief Operating Officer, Bizzycar Inc. “We were able to save money by offboarding a vendor and save time by not having to produce meeting notes ourselves.”

Along with this milestone, Zoom also announced new capabilities, deeper language support, and further enhancements to existing capabilities for AI Companion.

AI Companion users can utilize the in-meeting questions feature in additional languages, expanding accessibility. Plus, users will receive concise meeting summary overviews at the beginning of full meeting summaries, enhancing the efficiency of information retrieval.

The in-meeting questions capability is available in seven new languages on a preview basis, and the meeting summaries feature includes a brief overview at the top of emailed summaries, offering users a condensed version alongside the full meeting summary.

Moreover, Zoom is releasing new AI Companion capabilities throughout November. The meeting summary and in-meeting questions functions will support an additional 32 languages in preview, and AI Companion will offer meeting coach capabilities, initially featuring speech analytics in Smart Recordings. This includes analyzing the meeting host's talk-listen ratio, talk speed, and speech fillers, providing valuable insights into their engagement with participants.

AI Companion will also be integrated into Zoom Events. This offers chat compose capabilities for lobby chats and assistance in crafting emails for registration, marketing, and ticketing communications. Lastly, Zoom will introduce an optional control for customers to specify that AI Companion capabilities within their organization exclusively use the Zoom large language model.

“Providing the best value to our customers across our platform is core to our mission, which is why we made AI Companion available at no additional cost, and we continue to introduce new AI capabilities at Zoom speed, so more of our customers can get the most out of Zoom’s AI innovations,” said Smita Hashim, Chief Product Officer at Zoom. “Our unique federated approach allows us to dynamically utilize different models, helping to reduce AI overhead costs and provide broad access to generative AI.”
