FlowGPT Raises $10M to Make AI-Native Applications Even More Accessible

By

By many accounts, building software used to be a semi-exclusive club, in a way. It required a whole team of specialists – professional engineers, designers, product managers – all pitching in. The high costs and required skills created major barriers, however, leaving in their wake many problems without solutions.

That said, FlowGPT founders, Jay Dang and Lifan Wang, saw this as an opportunity in furthering accessibility.

For context, FlowGPT is an all-in-one, global community-driven AI tool and app store that can be used to generate text, translate languages, write differentiated content, and answer questions with highly detailed blocks of information. Its features also include a large (and growing) library of AI prompts, an engagingly user-friendly interface, and other instructional resources. The goal is to facilitate easier, more inclusive learning when it comes to AI models and specific prompt discovery.

So, back to its founders: Jay Dang and Lifan Wang, who met during their time at UC Berkeley SkyDeck. Recognizing the aforementioned issues – intimidating costs and skill gaps – the two founders sought to enable anyone to create AI-native applications using natural language prompts.

Hence, FlowGPT’s founding in January of last year.

So, the news: Earlier this year, FlowGPT sought to raise funds in a Pre-Series A round. It has since achieved that; FlowGPT announced recently that it successfully raised $10 million. This funding round was led by Goodwater Capital with additional participation from DCM. (Notably, DCM also invested in FlowGPT while the company was still quote-unquote “in stealth.”)

We were able to hear from the investors themselves, as well.

From Goodwater Capital, Coddy Johnson:

“We believe the biggest future for AI is in open ecosystems. FlowGPT is helping to lead the way by building the largest open platform for AI apps, with the widest choice for users and with the most flexibility and freedom for creators to choose their models and collaborate with their communities.”

From DCM, Hurst Lin:

“Real-world problems are being solved everyday through the creation and collaboration in the vibrant FlowGPT open ecosystem platform.  This platform serves as a unique space where top prompt creators converge to creatively build cutting-edge AI apps. We're happy to support the FlowGPT team in actively seeking to expand their team to harness diverse talents, perspectives, and expertise in shaping the future of AI-driven solutions.”
