Expanding the Partnership: Box and Slack Announce New Workflow Integrations, Impressing the Power of AI

By

Good afternoon, readers. Happy Monday to y’all.

Let’s kick off the new week by talking about Box and Slack.

Started back in 2005, Box today provides secure collaboration, content management and workflow solutions – many powered by artificial intelligence – for more than 97,000 companies worldwide (and 68% of the Fortune 500, to boot). Teams like those at Airbnb, JLL, AstraZeneca, the U.S. Air Force, Morgan Stanley and Broadcom trust Box because of its cloud-based content management systems that prioritize dynamic collaboration and enterprise-grade security, above all else.

Slack, a Salesforce company, also dives deep into configuring new ways for teams to work. As Jennifer Quinlan, Global Managing Partner and Customer Transformation Leader at IBM described, “Whether you’re a small or large organization – and you’re executing anything from a discrete modernization program to an entire digital transformation initiative – Slack is an incredibly powerful tool for the hybrid work world.” IBM, NASA, Target, Uber and plenty of other big names place great trust in Slack when it comes to organizing flexible communications via channels, automating routine tasks via generative AI, and scaling securely to take collaboration woes off the table.

There’s honestly a lot Box and Slack have in common, which is why a.) they established a partnership years back, and b.) they’ve chosen to expand this partnership with the recently announced launch of Box AI in Slack.

This makes a ton of sense; to enhance tools for modernized productivity, companies today must be able to access all of their workplace resources, AI agents and applications in the context of where work is already happening. In that vein, Slack’s conversational interface and extensible platform (with more than 2,600 third-party applications) equips users with what they need to connect their most important business processes within the context of their existing work. Naturally then, Box’s Intelligent Content Cloud (powered by AI and now integrated in Slack) gives customers the ability to engage with and search through their enterprise content without disrupting their flow of work.

Available now, features of Box AI functionality in Slack include the following:

  • With dynamic and secure file previews, joint customers have the option to preview, scroll, and view the most recent versions of entire Box documents, including PDFs, spreadsheets, and slide decks, directly from their Slack channels. The ability to access and interact with files is governed by Box’s built-in permissions.
  • Real-time loading content cards allow Box files shared in Slack to reflect any changes made to the file in seconds, improving the user experience by ensuring files shared on Slack update as the Box file itself is changed.
  • Enhanced Box + Slack workflows enable Slack users to create no-code workflows that incorporate their Box content, allowing teams to automate business processes that include Box content directly within Slack.
  • Improved content workflow between Box, Slack and Salesforce allows joint customers to select Box as the default storage location for all of their unique uploads. Then, they can connect Slack channels and Salesforce accounts to the same mapped Box folder structures, ensuring content is reflected across all three platforms and eliminating redundancies.

Overall, Box AI in Slack seems like it’ll prove quite useful for teams in marketing, sales, HR, legal, and a lot more.

“Enterprises today recognize the potential of AI to unleash valuable insights that are trapped inside their content,” explained Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box. “Thousands of customers already leverage Box and Slack together, making it easy to share and collaborate on documents across both platforms while maintaining a single, secure source of truth for content. With this expanded partnership, we are bringing that same level of interoperability and cross-platform ease of use to the world of AI. Now, whether you are working on customer presentations, legal contracts, a budget spreadsheet, or any other file, you can leverage Box AI to get insights and answers without ever leaving your Slack environment. It's never been easier to apply secure, enterprise-grade AI to your work.”
