Zoom's Intelligent Director Feature Unites In-Office and Remote Teams

By

With hybrid work at an all time high and more employees working remote than ever before, the need for better conferencing tools to optimize meetings has been critical. To meet this need, video conferencing platform Zoom has introduced Intelligent Director for Zoom Rooms, which bridges the gap between in-office and remote employees.

The new AI-powered feature enhances connectivity and improves the conference room experience in hybrid work settings. It utilizes multiple cameras to provide each participant with their own dedicated space during Zoom Meetings.

“As more people return to the office, it’s no longer enough to deliver the best remote worker experience; every business needs a solution to deliver the best hybrid meeting experience,” said Smita Hashim, chief product officer at Zoom.

The Intelligent Director feature in Zoom Rooms is for medium to large sized conference rooms and is a step up from the company’s Zoom’s Smart Gallery feature for small to medium-sized meetings. It can frame up to 16 participants individually using multiple cameras instead of a single one and uses AI technology to select the best stream for each participant then sends it to the gallery view of the Zoom Meeting.

With the best image and angle of participants in the room, remote participants no longer need to worry about the “bowling alley effect” which creates a lack of connection due to limited visual engagement with others in the meeting. Now they can better see each person in the room clearly, even in large conference rooms.

“Even with some employees in the office, oftentimes other team members are dispersed, so meeting equity and inclusion become more important than ever. Intelligent Director is the solution that can bring employees together, regardless of location, so they can truly connect face-to-face,” said Hashim.
