Media and technology company Comcast introduced a new Storm-Ready WiFi product, a solution to ensure uninterrupted connectivity during storms, outages, or fallen trees.
Today, with the increasing impact of severe weather across the country, reliable backup connectivity is a must. The Storm-Ready WiFi device features cellular backup and a rechargeable battery lasting up to four hours. This can combat the typical two-hour power outages experienced across the U.S.
The device also provides customers with the assurance of staying connected at home, with an automatic transition to cellular backup when the main power goes down, allowing uninterrupted Internet use.
Storm-Ready WiFi is also a WiFi extender. It works together with Xfinity gateways to create an extensive mesh network, seamlessly extending WiFi coverage throughout homes. To provide support for the increased number of connected devices in today’s homes, it also supports WiFi 6 technology, for enhanced WiFi experiences with faster speeds, lower latency, and greater bandwidth.
Emily Waldorf, Senior Vice President of Consumer Internet Services at Comcast Cable, emphasized the significance of Storm-Ready WiFi today as connectivity plays a pivotal role in everything we do.
“Storm-Ready WiFi is that solution. Not only does Storm-Ready WiFi extend coverage to deliver our best-in-class WiFi to hard-to-reach corners of the home, but it also gives customers the peace of mind that their connection at home can continue even when the power is out,” said Waldorf.
